Sarah Fielke

Sarah Fielke

Sarah Fielke has been a passionate stitcher ever since her mother first taught her to sew 30 years ago. It was when she was pregnant with her first child years later that her sewing skills became a career. She made little gifts for her friends' new born babies and decorated her son's nursery, and began selling what she made and teaching her friends to sew.
Sarah's passion for quilting and fabric continued to grow. Having taught quilting and sold quilts for several years, she co-opened her first quilt shop, Material Obsession in Hunters Hill, Australia, where she could work and teach her passion every day, surrounded by inspirational and colourful modern fabrics.

Challenging her students and customers with new ideas for using fabric, colour, design and sewing techniques, Sarah inspires quilters to be more creative, find their own style and to step outside their comfort zone.

Sarah is an award winning quilt designer. In her 15 years in the quilting industry, her four best selling quilt books have sold over 100,000 copies worldwide and have been translated into 5 languages. Her first book, Material Obsession, is widely described as having been at the forefront of the Modern Quilting movement, and is a staple in many quilter's libraries. Her fourth book, Hand Quilted With Love, was released in May of 2013. Sarah's quilts have roots in both modern and traditional quilting, making her a firm favourite with quilters new and old. She describes her quilts as "contemporary traditional".

Sarah teaches extensively worldwide and is a vocal and involved member of the quilting community. She has over 3,000 Twitter followers, 1,500 Facebook followers and her blog averages 5,000 unique visits per month. Her largest following is in the USA, where she travels at least once a year to attend Quilt Market and to teach. Sarah understands the value of the online crafting community and also utilises apps such as Instagram and Flickr to raise her profile. Her online class with has over 6,000 students enrolled.

She exhibits her quilts at quilts shows in Australia and internationally. Sarah has designed fabrics for Lecien, Japan, and is now working with Spotlight Australia and Windham Fabrics to design fabric for both the major craft stores and patchwork shops. Her fourth fabric line, Millefiori for Spotlight Australia, is now available in Spotlight stores in Australia, New Zealand and Singapore.
